Bombay is the Bomb

Tuesday, April 7th, I visited Bombay Indian Restaurant in Egg Harbor Township. When first pulling up to the restaurant I was taken aback slightly at the exterior. It was old and a little shabby, but the exterior did not at all reflect the food.
The restaurant is a buffet style, costing only around $11. There was a variety of dishes and I tried most of them, so I'll go down my list and describe each one. I started off by putting some papri chat on my plate. They were little cracker-type pieces of bread that were crunchy but felt a little stale. I then added some rice and drizzled the dall makhin over it. The dall makin was spicy and hot but the rice provided a nice cooling contrast that evened the combination out. Next I picked out some gulab jaunun, which were milk and cheese balls dipped in rose sauce. Each little ball was packed with sugar and it was delicious, although there was still some heat in the food which was very interesting. I also tried some alu goblin, potatoes and coli flower covered with all sorts of spices. The spices tinted the food yellow and gave it a cheesy-looking exterior and somehow the food even tasted a little bit cheesy. Finishing my plate I tried some of the chicken curry, and unfortunately I was let down. It tasted just like normal chicken with hardly and spice or extra flavor.
There were two other foods the restaurant prepared beautifully. First was the naan, the bread that was given at the tables. It was soft and moist, having a very smooth texture, but also a little bit of crunch. It was by far the best bread I've ever eaten at a restaurant. The other food item was the rice pudding they had at the end of the buffet. It was a small touch, but a very nice conclusion to the meal. After eating food that had a lot of spice and heat, the cool and creamy rice pudding provided a very nice contrasting desert. For its low price and generally good food, Bombay is certainly a place to check out on your lunch break.
